Dungeness Crab

Metacarcinus magister (formerly Cancer magister), is a bottom dwelling species of decapod crustacean that ranges from Alaska's Aleutian Islands to Point Conception, California. Considered a culinary delicacy by many, these crab may grow to 9 inches across their carapace, but normally grow to around 7 inches at maturity. Both sexes go through growth stages called moults where shells harden over time. In 2009 the state of Oregon designated Dungeness crab as the state's official crustacean.
