Pro Tools

Pro Tools is a digital audio workstation (DAW) manufactured by Avid. The recording software comes equip with Bomb Factory's award winning compressor and plugins. Some of us remember the days of Pro Tools Free, a free fully featured 8 track recording platform. Pro Tools Free was quickly discontinued when the manufacturer realized how much raw power Pro Tools Free gave away.

The first version of Pro Tools was created by Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks at UC Berkeley in 1984. The software was originally named Sound Designer followed by the name Sound Tools, before it was named Pro Tools in 1991. Gotcher and Brooks went on to found the company Digidesign which was bought by Avid in 1995.

Some audio professionals would say that Pro Tools is the industry standard but Pro Tools has seen quite a bit of competition from emerging audio software in recent years.
