Woolly Bear Caterpillar

Pyrrharctia isabella, more commonly called the banded woolly bear caterpillar, is black at both ends with a red band in the middle. In its larval form, the caterpillar eats grass, weeds, herbs and leaves. As an adult, it is known as the Isabella tiger moth. The woolly bear is not dangerous, but will play dead by rolling up into a ball if handled.
