Chana Masala Recipe
Chana Masala is a spicy vegetarian dish from Northern India. It is mainly garbanzo beans, tomatoes, and spices. This dish is amazing with yogurt and naan bread.
2 cups soaked garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
1 diced tomato
1 diced onion
3 tablespoons olive oil or ghee
2 teaspoons coriander
1/2 tablespoon cumin seeds
1/2 tablespoon turmeric
1/2 tablespoon red or green chili power
1/2 tablespoon ginger root
1 tablespoon garam masala (powdered or paste)
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
Salt to taste
Drain and wash garbanzo beans. Set aside. In a sauce pan heat the oil with a few cumin seeds until the fist seed cracks. Combine the tomato with the chili power and ginger in the sauce pan. Then add all the cumin seeds, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, cayenne and onion. Cook 4 to 5 minutes on medium heat or until the onion is soft. Add the beans with a 1/2 cup water. Cook 15 to 20 minutes until thick and add a sprinkle of salt.
Serve with yogurt and naan. Especially excellent with a side
