Crosshatching

Crosshatching, or just hatching, is a drawing technique where the artist creates depth, perspective, and tones by layering lines. A grid like pattern of parallel and perpendicular lines is used in varying complexities to create dark and light patches in the illustration. This is often a pencil technique but can also be used with pen & ink, charcoal, and digital illustrations.
