Garlic Press
A garlic press is a simple kitchen device used to mash garlic into a spreadable paste. Typically made of metal, this tool features a small well with a grated bottom for placing peeled (or un-peeled) garlic into. Then another piece slides into the well, over the garlic, and when pressures is applied to the handles, the garlic is smashed through the grate and forced into a mushy texture. Supposedly this process also affects the flavor.
