Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming is a dream in which the dreamer is consciously aware that he or she is dreaming. The dreamer controls what happens in a lucid dream, where anything is possible. Lucid dreams (LDs) can be dream-initiated (DILD) or wake-initiated (WILD). In DILDs, typically something strange happens in the dream that causes the dreamer to question reality. "Is this a dream?" or "I am dreaming!" are thought triggers that can launch lucidity. In WILDs, the dreamer transitions from a waking state to a lucid dreaming state without any lapse of consciousness. Some applications of lucid dreaming include skill enhancement, overcoming waking fears, social practice, reducing the impact of nightmares, artistic inspiration, healing, personal growth, spiritual exploration, adventure and excitement.
