Northern Elephant Seal

These Pacific Ocean giants are found from British Columbia to Baja California. Their Latin name is Mirounga angustirostris. Males grow to 20 feet long and weigh up to 4 tons. Females average 11 feet long and often weight a ton. They are gregarious when on shore, but are often solitary when at sea. Population is estimated at around 10,000 individuals.
