Synthetic Chord

In western music theory, a "Synthetic Chord" is one that cannot be analyzed in terms of common chord structures, such as a dominant or seventh chord. Consisting of a scale like collection of pitches, the Synthetic Chord is thought of as more suitable for describing a harmonic field then writing a melody.
