Tie-dye

Tie-dye is the process of dying an article of clothing or other material in a psychedelic multicolor organic pattern. This is achieved by pinching or folding white fabric in the desired pattern and securing the bunches with rubber bands or other ties. Then by applying various colored dyes to portions of the wet fabric the pattering is achieved.

Tie-dye became popular in the 1960s and is associated with the hippie movement.
