Angels are spiritual beings made of light. In Judeo-Christian traditions they are generally messengers from the Divine Godhead. In western art they are generally depicted with human form and having wings. There are a variety of cross-religious cross-cultural spiritual beings that are similar to angels. Of course one hastens to make to strong a parallel between angels and beings such as devas from the Hindu tradition, or fravashi from the Zorastrian tradition. Nevertheless most major religions of the world have some sort of being that is an intermediary between the Divine and human worlds.
